Chris & Paul - South Farm - Wedding Photographer
Chris & Paul’s Colour-Filled Summer Wedding at South Farm, Royston
As a wedding photographer, there are some days that just flow — and Chris and Paul’s South Farm wedding was exactly that.
This one came through a recommendation from a previous couple (which will always mean a lot). A year after photographing their friends’ wedding, Paul and Chris got in touch about their own celebration at South Farm in Royston, near Cambridge. From our first conversation, I knew this was going to be something special. Their energy together was effortless — full of warmth, humour, and that quiet understanding that only comes from two people who truly fit.
A Perfect Summer’s Day at South Farm
If you’re planning a South Farm wedding, you’ll know how stunning this venue is — and in July sunshine, it’s on another level.
Flowers in full bloom. Immaculate lawns. Bright, colourful caravans. The beautiful country house glowing in golden light. South Farm is one of those venues that gives you endless photographic opportunities at every turn.
It was my first time photographing a wedding at South Farm, and it absolutely lived up to its reputation as one of the best wedding venues near Cambridge.
Groom Prep — Together
One of my favourite parts of the day. Chris and Paul getting ready in the same room.
No tradition for tradition’s sake. No unnecessary separation. Just the two of them sharing the build-up together. The laughter, the gentle bickering, the quiet looks — ot many people get to see those litle moments that show nothing in particular yet seem to be incredibly intimate all the same. As a documentary-style wedding photographer, those are exactly the moments I’m always watching for.
An Emotional Walk Down the Aisle
Guests arrived in incredible summer outfits — honestly, the colour palette alone was a dream to photograph. The atmosphere built quickly. There was that unmistakable buzz that happens just before something big.
Then it was time.
They walked in together. Chris wont mind me saying but there was a bit of a wobble. The kind that happens when the emotion hits all at once. They paused, held each other, reset, and carried on. It was real. It was unscripted. It was perfect.
The ceremony took place in the summer house in the garden, with the guests sat across the pond and surrounded by wildflowers. If you’re looking for outdoor wedding ceremony inspiration at South Farm, this is it.
The Ring Blessing — A Moment I’ll Never Forget
I’ve photographed a lot of weddings, and I’ve seen a lot of traditions.
The ring blessing was something I hadn’t experienced before or since. Before exchanging rings, they were passed around every guest to be blessed. What followed was unexpectedly powerful.
Guests held them tightly. Some kissed them. Some whispered prayers. Some cried. The love poured into those rings was tangible.
I’m not particularly spiritual, but this moment genuinely moved me. From a storytelling perspective, it was incredible to capture — raw, emotional, completely sincere.
A South Farm Wedding Party Done Right
After the ceremony, we made the most of the courtyard for group photos and a few drone shots — South Farm’s layout makes this part of the day feel relaxed and easy.
And then the food. and party!.
The dance floor was full from the first song until I left at 11:30pm. Drinks flowed, laughter carried spread through the countryside, and at one point, a cardboard cut-out of a guest who couldn’t attend became the unexpected VIP of the evening.
It was joyful. Unfiltered. Completely them.
